Cool Pool News – 2022 – No. 10

Summer is truly in full bloom
With that wonderful humidity
We should see you at the pool soon
To not “take the waters” is simply stupidity!!

Plus there’s always something going on
And events to look forward to
So keep on reading and plan to attend
Meet old friends, and also make new…

Thanks to all who made our July 4th day such a huge success! It was wonderful to see the pool full of people, and what’s not to love about the traditional Bike Parade, Coin Toss and Greased Watermelon competition! No Independence Day at the Broyhill Crest Pool is complete without those events. Such fun to watch the joy and laughter – and what’s not to love about the delicious hamburgers and hotdogs, cooked to perfection in the pavilion! Combining it with the 70th anniversary of Broyhill Crest, and having the Broyhill Crest Community Association sharing their information made it even more special! To all who volunteered their time and energy – you are truly appreciated.

HAPPY HOUR – EVERY FRIDAY
All members are welcome to bring food and beverages to the pool, and hang with neighbors and friends to enjoy Happy hour from 6pm.
The only rule – Please NO GLASS containers of any kind. And no one will every ask the contents of a coffee mug…!!!

ADULT SWIM – SUNDAY, 10 am-11 am
Beginning this Sunday, July 10, we bring back the Adult Swim time. Open to all members, 18 years and over.
Start your morning with a pleasant and peaceful swim at the pool. Or bring up your Sunday paper and a coffee and enjoy a moment on the grounds. This adult swim time will continue every Sunday through the end of the season. It’s fun and it’s free!

SWIM FOR THE GREEN – WEDNESDAY, July 13 – 8 am
At practice on July 13, all members of the Barracudas swim team will be swimming laps to earn money for the team.
Sponsor a favorite lifeguard or Bubbles coach or neighbor and support the BC Barracudas! The pool members and community support is much appreciated!
Contact any member of the swim team for details.

FLOAT NIGHT – Every Tuesday, 7 pm
Every Tuesday, Float Night begins at 7 pm. This is an opportunity for anyone to bring an inflatable float into the pool, and enjoy fun, laughter and the odd ‘dunking’ with others. Floats are permitted in the pool from 7-8 pm, Ice cream floats are served at Kathy’s Korner from 7:30-8:15pm – still at the low price of $1 each. However, float nights are only served if people sign up to VOLUNTEER to scoop ice cream and pour sodas – it’s that simple! Check the website as there are gaps with no volunteers. If you don’t want to go home thirsty and disappointed, please lend a hand…(or two – it is easier to scoop ice cream that way!!!).

SUMMERFEST – Saturday July 30, 6 pm-11 pm
Are you ready for a night out without the kids? Or simply looking for a fun adult party right in the neighborhood — one where you can bring your friends — members or non-members alike? Summerfest is the answer – Brats, butts and beer – dinner, dessert, drinks, live music, swimming until 11 pm, and lots of fun – for just $25 per person. If you live nearby, you can walk to the pool and save on an Uber! Reserve the babysitter now, and get ready to enjoy some adult time with friends and a chance to meet new people too!

SUNDAY DINNERS
Rumor has it, the annual Shrimp Boil will be happening on July 17. Watch this space for more details next week.
And mark your calendar for the second BINGO night of the 2022 season – Christmas In July Bingo on July 24. Everything is $1 – Pizza, salad, dessert and each game of Bingo. We play 10 games. With fabulous prizes to be won – it’s a great evening of fun for all the family.

POOL RULES
With so many new members, it is understandable that the rules sometimes are not known, So this is the place to enlighten you of our pool rules, and a gentle reminder for those who know but ‘forget’

1) Please no eating on the deck. That means at any tables or at chairs inside the pool deck area, which is anywhere inside the chain-link fence that surrounds the pool area, including in the baby pool area.
This is for many reasons – health code, keeping the pools free of residue food and trash, and keeping the bees away from the pool deck area. We are lucky to have an area surrounded by trees and plants,
which means bees and bugs too. WATER ONLY is allowed to be consumed on the pool deck. Food is welcomed and permitted anywhere outside the chain-link fence – Kathy’s Korner, at the tables behind the
deep end, in the pavilion, anywhere on the grass areas.

2) Please supervise your children in the baby pool. No children should EVER be in the baby pool area unattended. There MUST be an adult in with them at all times. The baby pool area is not
guarded by the lifeguards, and if there was a problem, the access to the area takes time. You MUST supervise your children in the baby pool area. Unfortunately there have been many times when
children are in there alone. Children will be told by the guards to get out of the water if this continues to happen. The guards are not expected to locate the parents. The safety of the children comes first.
We are a friendly pool, and if you need to leave your child for a moment, just ask someone in the area to keep an eye on them. Many are happy to do that. Just don’t leave them alone.

3) Please respect the property. We have a wonderful sandpit in the lower level by the pavilion. Sand travels over the sides – we get that! But we do not expect to open the freezer in the pavilion and find it full of sand. Now, that magical “fairy” has to clean the freezer, which also made it unavailable to use on July 4th. Also, the stand up chess board game is a gift in memory of a passed member of our pool, and she is smiling from above, knowing it is being used and enjoyed. Seeing kids using the pieces as swords and other fighting devices is not what was planned for its use! Please teach respect of any communal property – it’s a life lesson too! Our pool is for all to enjoy – we want everyone to get along together and be kind to all.

Stay cool
See you at the pool…
